Duphalac
Duphalac is an effective medicine for constipation that can be used by all except some restrictions are mentioned for the children.
The active ingredient of Duphalac is lactulose, which helps to soften the consistency of stools so they are easier to pass.

Description:
This medication is a laxative used to treat constipation. It may help to increase the number of bowel movements per day and the number of days you have a bowel movement.
Lactulose is a colonic acidifier that works by increasing stool water content and softening the stool. It is a man-made sugar solution.
Composition:
100 ml Duphalac contains: 66.7 g lactulose U.S.P
Dosage:
As directed by the physician.
Adults and adolescents: 15-45 ml is starting dose daily and 15-30 ml is the maintenance dose daily.
Children (7-14 years): 15 ml is starting dose and 10-15 ml is the maintenance dose daily.
Children (1-6 years): 5-10 ml is starting dose as well as a daily maintenance dose.
Infants (under 1 year): up to 5 ml is starting and maintenance dose simultaneously.
Lactulose may be given as a single dose or in two divided doses. For Duphalac in bottles, the measuring cup should be used.
After a few days, the starting dosage may be adjusted to the maintenance dose based upon treatment response.
Several days (2-3) days of treatment may be needed before the treatment effect occurs.
Side effects:
Gas, bloating, burping, stomach rumbling/pain, nausea, and cramps may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Precautions:
Before taking lactulose, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.
This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: diabetes.
