Entamizole
Entamizole (Diloxanide Furoate/ Metronidazole) is an approach in the management of amoebiasis offering therapeutic benefits over the previously regiments. Manufacturer by Abbott Laboratories.
It is a combination of diloxanide furoate, a luminal amoebicide, with mentronidazole the potent tissue amoebicide. Entamizole thus constitutes a potent and comprehensive therapy for all forms of ameobiasis.
Indication:
Acute ameoebic dynstery chronic intestinal ameobiasis, Hepatic amoebiasis and giardiasis.
Package Contains:
Each packet contains film coated 30 tablets in 3 strips of Entamizole.
It is also available in suspension/syrup form.
Ingredients:
Each film coated tablet contains:
Diloxanide Furoate B.P 250mg
Metronidazole U.S.P 200mg
Dosage:
The recommended dosage for adults is 2 tablets thrice daily.
Children aged 5-12 should be given half to one tablets according to age thrice daily for 5 days.
In refectory cases the treatment can be continued up to 10 day, if desired by physician prolonged administration e.g as a prophylaxis is not recommended.
Contra-indications and Warnings:
To be dispensed only on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner.
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Avoid during pregnancy.
Prolonged administration, e.g as a prophylactic is not recommended.
Regular clinical and laboratory monitoring (especially leucocyte count) are advised if administration for more than 10 days is continued to be necessary and patients should be monitored for adverse reactions, such as peripheral or central neyropathy.
Treatment of Overdosage:
Early gastric lavage is recommended for gross over dosage. There is so specific treatment.
Instructions:
Protect from excessive heat, light and moisture.
Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
